Some of our projects have not been funded yet, or have received insufficient or irregular funding. We are currently looking for potential donors for the following projects:

Unaccompanied Children and Elderly Support Program: funding is insufficient. There have been many children and elderly among the Karen who have fled Burma in the wake of the latest SPDC campaign since November 2005, and this project is under strain.

Karen Young Women's Leadership School: no funding after June 2007.

Child Development Project (Nursery Schools): insufficient funding. Because of increased need in the camps, we have opened a new Nursery School which needs more funding for school materials and food for the students. We need 5 Thai baht (13 US cents) per child per day; at present we have funding for 3 Thai baht (8 US cents).

Traditional Birth Attendant (TBA) Program: we have insufficient funding. KWO supports TBAs with training to upgrade skills, educational materials in Karen language and birth equipment kits.

Organisational Development Workshop: we need funding for a series of workshops for KWO to assess our structure, range of projects, and future direction.

Relief for Internally Displaced People: We would like to provide further essential material support, including rice and medicine, to Karen people displaced inside Karen State.

Volunteers with relevant skills and experience are always welcome to work with community groups on the border. We particularly need volunteers with experience in midwifery, librarianship, data collation and record-keeping, and legal conventions for the documentation and reporting of human rights abuses.

We are looking for a volunteer to assist with an independent evaluation of KWO as an organisation and of all our projects.
